The world's largest anilox roll manufacturer sets itself apart fromthe rest with
four unique technology differences found nowhere else. And with Apex
Anilox Rolls you won't have to pay more for the features described below.
They come standard on every Apex roll we sell.
#1 ULTRACELL Cell Geometry = Superior Performance on Press

Apex Ultracell and Ultracell Plus cell geometries are wider and shallower than traditional CO2
laser-engraved rolls. The unrivaled precision of the cells ensures a cleaner ink transfer and
longer blade life.
What does this mean to the flexo printer?
- Finer line screens without ink upgrades
- More thorough ink release
- More consistent land area resulting in more precise ink-to-plate transfer and less blade wear
- Faster, easier and more efficient clean-up
#2 ULTRAMELT Laser Engraving Process = Extremely Low Anilox Cell Porosity
Less than 0.5% porosity after laser engraving.
During the laser engraving process, Apex employs its own high output, two-phase laser which actually melts closed the anilox ceramic, hardening it to a glistening, smooth, non-porous and extremely dense surface. What does all this mean to the flexo printer? - Less scoring and surface damage - Ability to resolve finer line screens - Better ink release |

#3 ULTRASHIELD Nickel Corrosion Barrier = Impermeable Protection from Corrosion

In much the same way as a primer coat is essential for a smooth topcoat, Apex'sUltraShield HVOF layer provides a non-porous foundation for the ceramic layer - and a protective layer for the anilox roll base.
Located between the ceramic outer layer and the metal base lies the UltraShieldcorrosion barrier. Only Apex employs a HVOF (high velocity oxygen fuel) processon every roll to transform this nickel buildup layer into an impermeable, non-porouscorrosion barrier. Narrow web flexographers know that harsh cleaners and waterpercolation can destroy anilox integrity through corrosion.
UltraShield technology benefits:
- Twice as thick as the competition's
- Impermeable barrier to corrosion
- Impervious to harsh cleaners and water damage
- Highest quality nickel-chrome alloy
#4 RELEASALL High-Density Non-Wetting Ceramic = Highest ink release and surface tension
Apex perfected a "non-wetting" process that repels moisture on the surface of the anilox rolls. This hydrophobic quality
is not a spray coating nor sealant that is eroded by doctor blades or aggressive cleaners, it is integral to the structure of
the ceramic resulting in:
- Lower porosity - less than 1%!
- Practically complete ink release with less plugging/clogging
- Protection against contaminants and aggressive cleaners
- Hardness rating of 1500 Vickers (our competitors range from 600-1450)
Our competitors' conventional ceramic ranges from 2%-15% porosity pre-engraving.
| Apex ReleasAll ceramic measures less than 1% porosity before engraving.

So, what will an Apex roll mean to your operation on a day-to-day basis?
Apex is dedicated to making a pressman's work experience trouble-free.
- Ability to use finer line screens without changing your ink
- Precise ink-to-plate transfer
- Better ink release and less plugging for longer press runs and doctor blade life
- More durable and less prone to damage
- Faster, easier and more efficient clean-up
